Kilam Media
I first started offering my skills and services after graduating from the Small and Medium Enterprise Management program at Algonquin School of Business almost 15 years ago. When I became a single parent in 2013, I decided to register my business and have continued to evolve my services to meet the needs of this ever-changing world. Kilam Media is a full service digital marketing agency that helps individuals, small businesses and non-profits grow and keep their digital presence relevant. I offer content creation and strategy, social media management, photography, video production, graphic and web design, and event planning. I prioritize collaborating, hiring and supporting artist-entrepreneurs that are primarily women of colour, historically marginalized and are part of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
A.R.T. In Action
As a young adult, art became my outlet and the path I took to healing my childhood trauma. I recognized it as an important part of mental health and because it helped me, I wanted to give back to my community. In 2014, I co-founded A Real Thought (A.R.T.) In Action with a fellow artist and art educator Sarah Lickley. A.R.T. In Action provides free art workshops to children and youth facing multiple barriers. Since 2014, we have partnered and provided programming to the Hamlet of Arviat, Nunavut and organizations like CHEO YouthNet, Roberts Smart Centre, Ability First Ottawa, Canadian National Institute for the Blind and Vibe Arts Toronto.
In Our Tongues Reading and Arts Series
After recognizing the lack of spaces in which BIPoC writers could share work comfortably, and with my growing desire to see more diversity, I co-founded a monthly reading and arts series in 2019 with fellow writer, Shery Alexander Heinis. This monthly gathering is the first in Ottawa dedicated to showcasing the work of racialized and Indigenous artists, writers, poets and musicians. We have given out multiple community funds, micro-grants and honorariums since first launching.
