Over the last few months I've been editing videos produced and directed by Lain Ewing in partnership with Kro's Nest Productions for Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Third District.

In a series called 2025 Wildfires Retrospective, these videos are all about emergency preparedness, environmental impacts and the LA County's efforts alongside their partners to help the community rebuild after one of the most destructive disasters in California history.

Here are the videos below - and more are coming out.

Emergency Preparedness is a way of life in the Third District — and all preparedness requires community. Topanga is a special example of that effort, especially the incredible work of the Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness (TCEP). Dive into their work, alongside LA County’s own efforts to prepare community for emergencies, in this installment of our 2025 Wildfires Retrospective series.

Emergency Preparedness is a way of life in the Third District — which means that partnership and action BEFORE a disaster strikes. Supervisor Horvath, OEM Director Kevin McGowan, and James Grasso of TCEP explain how expanding and upskilling the Office of Emergency Management improves the partnerships and preparation for the next disaster. Dive into LA County’s own efforts to update and improve it's emergency response systems and partnerships in this installment of our 2025 Wildfires Retrospective series.

Climate change is making unprecedented disasters more common (and more costly) than before. In Sunset Mesa, Karen Martinez is rebuilding her home with non-combustible blocks to withstand this new reality -- and paving the way for her neighbors to do the same. In this installment of our 2025 Wildfires series, learn about Karen's story, non-combustible materials, and how LA County is working with residents to rebuild with wildfires and resiliency in mind.

Supervisor Horvath and YMCA of Greater Los Angeles CEO Victor Dominguez talk about the story of the Palisades-Malibu YMCA, a beloved community hub for generations of residents that was lost in the fire. After the YMCA mobilized volunteers across LA during the fires, Supervisor Horvath donated $10 million directly to it's rebuilding -- because rebuilding community means rebuilding so much more than just homes.
